Senators Kaine, Warner and Representative Spanberger laud a long term Orange County Virginia Educator and a Technical Education Supporter.

At the August 20, 2023 Celebration of Education, sponsored by the Orange County (Virginia) Education Foundation (OCEF), at The Pavilion on Lakeland Farms in Orange, Virginia, staff from both offices presented letters of commendation, penned by both Senators and Member of Congress, to Laurie Limoge-Jamerson, a 40 year teacher in Orange County, and Bill Hager, President of the OCHS Alumni and Friends Foundation.

This annual event draws educators and sponsors from Orange County to support the OCEF’s Teacher Innovation Grant Program. This program awards grants directly to our Orange County Teachers to develop unique projects that add to our students’ educational experiences. These projects bring forth new and refreshing ideas that directly involve our Orange County students at all 4 grade levels.

In their three letters to Laurie Limoge-Jamerson, Laurie was recognized and congratulated for receiving the OCEF’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Laurie was cited, in the letters, for her 40 years as an educator and for “promoting the importance of career and technical education (CTE)” which has given students “The opportunity to engage in hands on learning activities that build their skills and to prepare them for in demand jobs.” She was also congratulated for being “Coach of the school’s robotics team” which has won several regional and state awards. Finally, when past students and educators were asked to respond to a related social media page, over 400 of her past students responded!

Bill Hager was also recognized by all 3 Congressional offices for receiving the OCEF’s Friend of Education award for his active promotion “Of career and technical education” which has also led to students being given the opportunity to get prepared with in demand job skills. Bill was specifically commended for his incorporation of a dedicated non profit corporation that takes in contributions but then allocates all of incoming money to technical scholarships and grants! Since its incorporation in 2019, the OCHS Alumni and Friends Foundation has awarded grants to 77 students. Bill, and his Foundation Board, and sponsors, were praised for the dramatic impact they have had on the lives of 77 students and families. Bill hopes to award (50) scholarships at $5,000.00 yearly.
